Marlys Kiser
MA / LCMHC
I believe that everyone deserves a space to heal and grow. Together, we may explore thoughts, emotions, relationships, values, and behaviors while developing practical tools for creating meaningful, lasting change. I believe that healing often begins with a safe, trusting relationship, and I am committed to meeting each client with empathy, respect, and understanding.
My counseling approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to each client's unique needs. I draw from several therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, and expressive arts therapy. This includes using the creative arts and CBT to assist clients in developing healthier thinking and appropriate behaviors. Additionally, I work with clients to improve their quality of living by finding meaning in life based on their values. I integrate a variety of approaches based on the client's unique needs to help improve relationships, challenge thought processes, and explore underlying emotions and needs which can be fueling painful behaviors. I believe healthy relationships are important in promoting change and healing. Growth and relationship building requires hard work and commitment on both the part of the counselor and the client.
I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT and specialize in working with children and teens who have experienced trauma. I offer a safe space for individuals who are part of theLGBTQAI+ community.
